Getting from Barcelona to Ibiza (and return)

barcelona-to-ibizaIbiza is , by far, the most popular party island in Europe. Many travelers flock here for the incredible party atmosphere and great clubs. What many don’t know is that the island is chocked full of secret coves, pristine beaches and rich local culture.
If you want to explore some of the mainland before heading off to the island, it’s a good idea to fly either into Madrid or Barcelona and then travel to Ibiza.

By plane

Ibiza is served by an airport and thankfully low-cast carriers offer flights between Barcelona and Ibiza. The flight takes 1 hour and you can choose between both low-cost and regular carriers: Ryanair, Air Europa, Iberia and Clickair.
Ryanair offers daily flights departing at 10:20 a.m. from Barcelona (Girona). If you book the flight a month in advance you can even get €0 flights (and pay only the airport fees). A RT ticket (booked 1 month in advance) can be as low as €47.23 per person. If you book the flight two months in advance the RT ticket starts at €38.14 per person. Even if you book you flight only one week prior to departure, the RT ticket will start at €92.67 per person. However, if you need only a one way ticket it’s going to cost at least €33.71 per person if you book 1 month in advance and €28.66 per person if you book 2 months in advance.
The regular carriers’ prices start at €118 per person, RT, if you book 1 month in advance (Air Europa).

By ferry

There are three ferry companies offering connections between Barcelona and Ibiza: Balearia, Iscomar and Transmediterranea. The journey takes between 8 h 30 min (Trasmediterranea) and 9 h 30 min (Balearia).
The following ferries are available:

  • Balearia*: at 9:30 p.m., on Mon, Wed & Sun
  • Iscomar*: at 9 p.m., on Mon, Wed & Fri, starting with June
  • Trasmediterranea: daily, at 11 p.m.; price: €80.00 per person, one way, standard seat

Return ferries are available at 10 a.m. , on Tue, Thu & Sun with Balearia and at 7 p.m. daily with Transmediterranea (€114.00 per person, RT).
