Malaga International Airport

Handling over 11 million passengers a year, the Malaga International Airport is the third busiest airport in Spain, after Madrid Barajas and Barcelona el Prat airports. Located 8 km from the city, the airport has excellent communication links to the whole of the Costa del Sol as well as Malaga old city centre. It is one of the oldest Spanish airports as well as being one of the original locations of the first airline founded in Spain in 1919. Most of the traffic handled by the airport is from the European Union. There are most number of flights from Malaga to London-Gatwick, Manchester, Dublin, London-Luton, Paris Charles De Gaulle and Brussels. Malaga Airport also has scheduled flights to the rest of Spain, most significantly to Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca.

Tips to Finding Cheap Airfares

  1. Airfares to Malaga tend to be more expensive than those to other major European cities like London and Paris.  In order to get a good deal, your best bet is to fly to these major capitals or Madrid first, and then book a budget flight to Malaga.
  2. For cheap airfare to Spain, do your research early and try to book your tickets for mid-week. Weekends are the most expensive period to travel, especially on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays.
  3. Avoid traveling in summer, when airfares are the most expensive. But since Malaga is usually a summer destination, plan your trip for the beginning or end of summer; most airlines have promotions during these periods of the year.
