Besides Mallorca, the other Balearic islands such as Ibiza and Menorca are also hot favorites among European tourists, especially amongst the Germans and British who flood its shores every summer. In high season (July to September) don’t expect to have the whole beach to yourself, make sure you book your flights and hotels in advance.
Airfares to Mallorca are extremely cheap for departures from the U.K. and Germany, due to the extensive network of airlines that serve its international airport and the range of budget airlines available. You can often get a better deal with travel packages that include airfare and accommodation.

Main Gateway to the Balearic Islands

As the biggest Balearic island, Mallorca serves as the main entry point to the neighboring islands. With a major capital city, Palma de Mallorca, the isle is equipped with the region’s best infrastructure and economy. Thanks to the efficient network of water and air transport, Mallorca makes an excellent base to explore the surrounding isles. It is also of moderate size – you can easily spend from a weekend to a week here, exploring its thousands of crystalline beaches and mountain chains.

Palma de Mallorca Airport

Also known as the Son Sant Joan Airport, the Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is Spain´s third biggest airport next to Madrid and Barcelona.  Serving over 22.8 million passengers each year, the airport’s traffic swells up to a maximum during the busy summer months. It is a main base for Spanish airline AirEuropa, and also works as a hub for German airline AirBerlin. At the airport, you can easily rent a car or get an airport shuttle to your resort.
The airport is just five miles (8 kilometers) from Palma de Mallorca city center, and is easily accessibly by public bus. For those with time to spare, you can easily while your time away in the historical quarters of Palma – a beautiful part of the island providing an insight into local culture and history.

Tips to Finding Cheap Airfares

  1. For cheap airfare to Spain, do your research early and try to book your tickets for mid-week. Weekends are the most expensive period to travel, especially on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays.
  2. Summer is evidently the most expensive period to travel, but you can usually find a good bargain just before the high season starts i.e. early June or late September. Most airlines and hotels have promotions during these periods of the year.
