Resorts

Tenerife resortWhile Spain is famous for the sunny beaches, few tourists know that it’s possible to ski here.

There are numerous resorts all over Spain and it would be impossible to write about each and every one of them. Here is a list of the most popular beach and ski resorts and what to expect when you arrive there.

Beach Resorts

The most popular vacation spots for those looking to soak in the sun are: Costa del Sol, Costa Brava, Costa de la Luz, Costa Blanca, Costa Verde, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. In each location tourists will find everything they need for a perfect vacation, accommodations to suit any budget and a lot of beach to soak in the sun.

Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol is the most popular string of beaches in Spain. The most popular resorts are: Málaga, Marbella, Nerja and Torremolinos.

Marbella has been the preferred destination for elegant visitors ever since it opened in the 1960s. That means the resort is more expensive to visit than other resorts on Costa del Sol. The stretched of beaches is called the Golden Mile. During the high season (July/August) expect to pay €50-250 / night for a double room depending on the hotel type, 3-star hotels averaging around €70/night. Vacation rentals are also very popular.

The Balearic Islands

The Balearic Islands are famous both for the nightlife on Ibiza and the beautiful resorts on all islands.

Without a doubt, some of the most popular resorts are to be found in Palma de Mallorca. It’s the place to see and be seen on vacation. Hotels are on the pricey side (to say the least), especially during the high season. Expect to pay €100-1000 /night for a double room, depending on the type of hotel. On average, a double room in a 2-star hotel costs on average €100/night.

The Canary Islands

Blessed with sunshine all year round, most of the travelers flock to Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Some of the most popular resorts in Tenerife include: Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos and Playa Paraiso.

Playa Paraiso is one of the secluded resorts in Tenerife. It comprises a small beach, some hotels and restaurants, totally “cut off” from the hustle and bustle of playa de las Americas, which located just a short taxi ride away. An apartment (in a hotel) for 4-6 persons costs €200-400 per week.

Some of the best skiing resorts include: Baqueira-Beret, La Molina, Formigal, Panticosa, El Tarter, Pal, La Pinilla, Navacerrada, Valcotos, Valdezcaray and Cantabria.

La Molina is the oldest ski resort in Spain, located in the Catalan Pyrenees, just 160 km / 100 miles from Barcelona. The resort is ideal for intermediate skiers. Expect to pay €70-150/night for a room during the high season (winter).
