The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca is mostly known for the fancy (and expensive) resorts in Palma de Mallorca, the area surrounding the capital (Palma).
How to get to Mallorca
There are frequent flights to Palma de Mallorca from many European cities. There are also domestic flights from Ibiza and Menorca.
There are ferries from the other Balearic Islands to Mallorca. The prices are much affordable than if you were flying. Also, ferries link several cities from the Spanish coast –Valencia and Barcelona –to Mallorca.
Weather
In Mallorca, the winters are milder and warmer than inland, while the summers are hot. The breezes do cool the atmosphere in the afternoon though. During autumn- and particularly in September, the water is still warm enough to swim.

What to do
Most tourists come to Mallorca for the beautiful beaches. Hence, they are really crowded during high season and you must book everything –including your rental car- in advance. There are both popular crowded beaches –such as Es Trenc- but also secluded beaches, located way off the beaten track.
The wonderful mountains Serra de Tramuntana offer fantastic scenery and lovely hiking trails.
Cycling is really popular on the island, while walking is the best alternative if you choose to visit Palma, the island’s capital.
Tips
The official language is Spanish and the locals speak Mallorquin, a Catalan dialect. English, German and French are spoken frequently particularly in the tourist areas.
If you want to experience rural tourism at its finest book a room in one of the former farmhouses and country estates. Fully refurbished and modernized, there are the perfect locations if you want to spend a family vacation.
If you’re looking to splurge and enjoy some privacy, there are several exclusive resorts in Mallorca. These private resorts tend to be tucked away in quiet, secluded locations, making your holiday a complete indulgence. Depending on how long you’d prefer to drive, the resorts located in the northeast corner of the island tend to be more exclusive.
